Mr Pramod Achan is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St Bart’s Trust in London. He has an adult/ young adult complex hip practise with an interest in trauma.

This is a ‘must watch’ presentation which helps our understanding of the hip biomechanics set against a background of considerable surgical experience in the DDH/ CDH patient cohort. Mr Achan draws us toward the association between metaphyseal helitorsion and extra medullary neck retro- version. Out of Mr Achan’s surgical experience comes some really priceless tips and techniques to optimise the custom implant technology available to us.

“The consequences of a successful total hip replacement with a custom implant that eliminates a limp, addresses limb length equality and eliminates pain in these young adolescent patients, significantly improves their  psychological profiles and raises self esteem” Mr Achan’s presentation conclude with a ‘thought provoking’ question, “does the balancing of the hip in the axial plane play a role in determining the torque at the trunion head neck interface?”
